Writing about yourself is awkward as hell. I wish I could start this out like so many blogs I’ve seen. I’d start by telling you what year I quit my job, how I sold all my belongings except for my dog and have been to 156+ countries. How I’m this fashion-travel-lifestyle-ista and you can find me floating in crystal blue waters in a beautiful dress without a tourist in sight. Or my incredibly sexy manfriend holding my hand, following me around living his life to take pictures of my back. (Although that girl is killing it!)
This won’t be like that.
It will mostly be poor grammar, run on sentences, cuss words at inappropriate times, alcohol, desert-dry sarcasm, my travel screw ups and accidental successes. So you may ask yourself, “WTF is she going to bring to the table?” Welp:
1) My spelling skillz are ON. POINT
2) I will sneak in humble brags about my Great Dane, Bruce.. His IG is @big_booty_bruce
3) And most importantly I will make you maps and/or step-by-step instructions, which could have saved me some headaches on my travels. It’s kind of the whole reason I decided to name it, “Hit the Road Map,” like that catchy tune, “Hit the Road, Jack and don’t cha come back no more.” I know, I know.. I’m painfully creative.
My name is Amy and I was born and raised in South Florida, we grew up traveling to the Caribbean and of course, Disney World. I moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL for college and stayed once I graduated, taking weekend trips and maximizing PTO for international trips. Naturally, being a Native Floridian I don’t believe in drinking my coffee any other way but over ice. I have a very limited amount of socks and get altitude sickness at a foot over sea level. I have an insatiable appetite for travel. I get back from a trip and am immediately planning the next one; I get agitated easily if I’m in town for more than two weekends in a row. Hangry could be an appropriate word for it.
I’ve wanted to start a blog for years but thought too many people were already doing it. Then, about a year and a half ago my life crapped out on me and I mean, SHIT. THE. BED. And there hasn’t been an end in sight. (Don’t be nervous, every post you read won’t be a sad cry for help). So, when the blows kept coming I thought, “Who gives a fuck!?” I’m not just applying this to the travel blog but to most things in my life. That’s not to say I’m a slack ass or hurt people. I’m a really good person, y’all! I’ll post pictures of my travels with black babies to prove it (eye roll emoji). I’m also not racist so don’t be offended. I am Asian as hell, like my dad is straight off the boat.
But I digress… I’m not just here to post inspirational pictures of the places I go and make people jealous of my unattainable life. I’m most likely eating ramen, putting too much money on my CC and/or literally sitting on travel sites all day to find the best deals. (Asians can’t resist a money saver, my dad once picked a nickle out of my brother’s poop). What I am here to do though is, whatever I want and I’m also here to tell you that you should do the same. We’re all human and not immune to the rug being pulled out from under us, as much as some of us may need it. I hope that it doesn’t take some life-altering event to happen for you to do whatever makes you happy. If that’s knitting sweaters for your 19 cats, I can get down with that! Just fucking do it, and quit bitching about the reasons you can’t. Sometimes the reasons you tell yourself are the exact reasons why you can and should do it.
Traveling is my lifeline, my passion and hobby. It’s what I think about most.. right after my unbelievably handsome Great Dane, Bruce. I believe in saying yes before saying no and I believe in a life of adventure, even if it’s in your own backyard. I’ve been adventuring for longer than this blog has existed so I’ll do my best to recall places I’ve been to help you on your travels but I may have guest bloggers from time to time, because some people can just do it better than I can!
If you want to talk some more you can find me on Facebook, IG, Twitter or email! Thanks for being a part of this journey with me and if you read this whole post through, you deserve a drink!
